Call to revive stalled 20mph road scheme after multi-million-pound boost

Norfolk County Council has just been awarded more than £15m from a government pot to encourage walking and cycling - and campaigners say some of the money should go to a Mile Cross scheme put on hold.

Conservative-controlled County Hall "paused" development of a plan for the Norwich estate at the end of January, just months after consulting the public on the project.

The scheme included new cycle lanes and two new zebra crossings on Mile Cross Road, along with the closure of one end of Half Mile Road to vehicles.

It had secured £850,000 from the government's Active Travel Fund in 2021, with council officials saying the changes would make the area safer.
