Call for answers over whether 'secret list' Norfolk base could house asylum seekers
Wretham Camp, between Watton and Thetford, was on a list of bases which Ministry of Defence chiefs provided to the Home Office as potential alternatives to taxpayer-funded hotels being used to house migrants.
That list came to light last year, when Home Office officials said the government had "no current plans" to house asylum seekers at the base.
But the Labour government, keen to meet its promise to stop the use of hotels to house asylum seekers, recently revealed its intention to use more military bases, including RAF Barnham in Suffolk, close to Thetford, as accommodation.

The proposals to house up to 1,250 single adult men there while their asylum claims are considered, triggered protests at the base, while the housing of asylum seekers in properties in Thetford sparked nights of disorder and a string of arrests.

And the growing use of such bases prompted Mid Norfolk MP George Freeman to call on the government to reveal whether Wretham Camp is also in the frame as a potential location.
