Valerie Knights spent years campaigning for safety improvements to the A47, having witnessed first hand the results of collisions just metres from her home at the White House, near North Burlingham.

Her house, at the now closed Cantley junction, was next to the accident blackspot on the road, between Norwich and Great Yarmouth.

Armed with a crowbar, first aid kit, blankets and pillows, she attended more than a hundred crashes.

The efforts of Mrs Knights, who died in 2022 at the age of 94, have been recognised after it was decided to name a new A47 bridge, just metres from where she lived, after her.

Knights Bridge was officially unveiled and opened on Tuesday (August 25) and will serve as a connection between villages such as North Burlingham, Cantley, Beighton, South Walsham and Blofield.
