How to reverse decline in health - and live a longer and happier life
However, scientists tell us we also have a biological age which is all about our inner health.
Most people who don’t take care of themselves have an older biological age than their chronological one, and this is bad news.
I imagine you’ve heard of telomeres but perhaps you’re not sure exactly what they are. I must confess, I’ve always been pretty vague about them myself. But I do know they are important.
Fortunately, a few days ago, I found an excellent explanation on the website of the world-famous Jackson Laboratory.
It reads, “Telomeres are structures made from DNA sequences and proteins found at the ends of chromosomes. They cap and protect the end of a chromosome like the end of a shoelace”.
Now, as we age, telomeres tend to shorten. And this is particularly true of people who smoke, drink too much alcohol, do little or no exercise, are overweight and sleep badly.
Interestingly though, by changing our behaviour, we can reverse this decline in our health, and this can lead to our telomeres growing longer again and our biological age diminishing.
So, if you’re keen to live well for longer, you might want to put some........
