How £30m indoor 'vertical farm' is growing future-proof foods
Fischer Farms constructed one of the world's biggest vertical farms at the Food Enterprise Park (FEP) at Easton in 2023.
The 25,000sqm building now produces 6.5 tonnes of leafy greens per week - with the output from the four-acre site estimated to be equivalent to 1,000 acres of conventional farmland.
Crops including lettuce, pea shoots, watercress and herbs are grown on stacked trays in 18 biosecure, climate-controlled growing tunnels, lit with 31,000 energy-efficient LED lights.

Meanwhile cutting-edge robotics and automation are used to optimise the growing, harvesting and reseeding systems, creating the perfect mix of light, temperature, nutrients and water.
