Farming leaders welcome safeguards to food standards in US-UK trade deal
Prime minister Sir Keir Starmer and president Donald Trump hailed the agreement as a “great deal for both countries” during their joint announcement this afternoon.
The UK government has been pursuing a deal with the US to reduce the impact of sweeping tariffs imposed by Mr Trump last month, which placed a 10pc levy on all UK exports and a 25pc charge on steel, aluminium and cars.
Under the deal, American tariffs on British cars will fall to 10pc for the first 100,000 vehicles exported to the US, while tariffs on steel are scrapped.
