Farmers finally strike contract deal with sugar factory bosses for beet prices
The agreement, which required an independent arbitration process after talks stalled last month, features a range of options for the 2027/28 sugar beet crop.
They include a one-year fixed price of £28.50 per tonne for up to 50pc of the contract, a one-year contract with a guaranteed base price of £25.50 per tonne plus a market-linked bonus for up to 100pc of the contract, and an index-linked contract for up to 50pc of the contract.
Norfolk farm contractor Kit Papworth is chairman of the National Farmers' Union's sugar board (NFU Sugar), which negotiated on behalf of beet growers.
