British Sugar invests record £43m to cut carbon emissions at 100-year-old factory
Work has begun at the Wissington site, aiming to cut annual carbon emissions by 50,000 tonnes - with the new equipment expected to be commissioned in autumn 2026.
The largest of British Sugar’s four factories, which celebrates its centenary in 2025, processes more than three million tonnes of East Anglian-grown sugar beet every year into about 400,000 tonnes of sugar, as well as many co-products.
