Since its season began in September, British Sugar says 7.7m tonnes of home-grown sugar beet has been processed at its four factories at Cantley and Wissington in Norfolk, Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk and Newark in Nottinghamshire.

Of that total, 0.97m tonnes were processed at Cantley on the banks of the River Yare, while 3m tonnes were sliced at Wissington, in west Norfolk.

It comes during a milestone year for the factories in Wissington and Bury St Edmunds, which both celebrate 100 years of beet processing in 2025.
