Retrac Developments applied for outline permission for four new plots at Shouldham, near Downham Market.

A planning statement said while the site off Westgate Street was outside the village's development boundary, it would not encroach into open countryside.

But six locals have objected to the proposals, which would have led to homes being built on what is currently green open space.

One said: "This is one of the identifying and unique characteristics of Shouldham,........
