The work was completed on Friday and the barriers closing off a 150m stretch of the route near the Oasis Leisure Centre have now been taken down as Sunny Hunny gets set for the Easter holidays.

It was cordoned off after a sinkhole appeared near the Waterside Bar and Oasis Leisure Centre after high tides in early February.

Surveys revealed a void described as being the size of a single-decker bus beneath it, where rubble used to backfill the 1920s sea defences had been washed away by the sea.

Beachcombers flocked to the town as fragments of glass and pottery were among the debris.

The cost of the work is not yet known but officials expect it to run to hundreds of thousands of pounds.
