The diesel vehicle burst into flame in Beaconsfield Road in Great Yarmouth at about 12.35pm today and its driver led those onboard to a safe area and called 999.

Its rear interior was gutted by the fire, and the bus had to be towed away as First Bus launched an investigation into what had happened.

It was the number 8 bus travelling from Caister to the James Paget Hospital.

Eyewitness Elizabeth Steer, who lives on Harley Road opposite the incident, said: “I heard an almighty bang and I assumed it was a trailer I propped up this morning and had fallen, so I came out and soon realised the bus was up in flames.
