Rupert Lowe, the town's MP, has accused his former party of being “outrageously rude” in a Facebook outburst, saying its members failed to turn up at an event it had planned at the Rumbold Arms in Southtown Road.

Mr Lowe said “arrogant politicians” had been “messing them around” at a time when the hospitality industry is struggling.
