But 18 months after a planning inspectorate ruled a waste energy plant in South Norfolk should be torn down, locals say the ordeal is persisting.

People living in Bressingham, near Diss, are fed up with the lingering smells from a controversial anaerobic digestion facility at Deal Farm, off Kenninghall Road.

Engie, the developer behind the scheme, was told to demolish the plant after an inspector who reviewed the case described the plant as an “intentional unauthorised development”.

But amid a fresh application involving the site, locals say enough is enough and want the saga to come to an end.

Geoff Lazell, one of the campaigners trying to stop the scheme, said: “Enough is enough - this costly farce has gone on for far too long now and we want closure, in every sense of the word.

“We want South Norfolk Council to finally act decisively, without fear or favour and enforce the demolition of both illegally constructed domes and all associated plant.”
