The dismantled and chopped-up remains of an Allan-Williams Turret were found buried underneath Mundesley promenade.

The turret is one of just 199 produced during the war, and due to post-war scrap drives, surviving examples are very rare.

The turret was found under the prom (Image: Mundesley Action 4 Cardiac Hill and Coastal Battery) It has since been handed to community group Mundesley Action 4 Cardiac Hill, which plans to restore and display it on the nearby Mundesley Coastal Battery site, which it now owns.

Group member Denise Revell said: “It had been cut into pieces and hidden under the prom, for goodness knows how many years.

"We have no idea why it was buried, and we haven't been able to find any old photos of Mundesley showing it.........
