Anyone who’s watched half a season of The West Wing could tell you that with less than two months to go until the midterm elections, the president should be focused on telling voters he’s heard their concerns, and his party has a plan to address them. Instead, Donald Trump has embarked on an idiotic renaming spree that no one off Truth Social finds productive, fun, or clever.

Two weeks ago, Trump threatened to change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” then issued an executive order and bullied tech companies to make it a reality. Last week, he suggested the Strait of Hormuz should be called the “Trump Strait,” though you obviously can’t rename territory you don’t control via shitpost.

Over the weekend, he tried to keep the renames rolling by suggesting on Truth Social that New Mexico shall henceforth be known as “New America”:
