Barely Anyone Wants to Join Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’
Can I interest you in a new United Nations that’s controlled by Donald Trump and consists largely of countries with authoritarian leanings and appalling human-rights records?
That’s the pitch the Trump administration made to the world with his new Board of Peace, and unsurprisingly there haven’t been many takers so far. Trump launched the new organization with a signing ceremony in Davos, Switzerland, on Thursday. Only 19 world leaders attended, and just two were from European countries, Hungary and Bulgaria. The list of members’ countries also includes Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia.
The board was authorized by the United Nations Security Council as a “transitional administration” that would oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, but there’s no mention of Gaza in its charter.
