Garden warning issued as millions of homes face hosepipe bans - Have your say!

Millions of households across the UK are facing the prospect of water restrictions due to the exceptionally dry start to the year. The Environment Agency has sounded a warning, indicating a "medium" risk of drought in England this summer unless the country experiences sustained rainfall.

Although no hosepipe bans are currently in place, the regulator has hinted that water companies may be forced to implement measures, including restrictions, in the coming months. This follows one of the driest springs in 61 years for parts of the country.

This shift in weather patterns comes after England experienced its wettest 12 months from October 2023 to September 2024, leading to severe flooding and difficulties for farmers trying to plant crops.

Thames Water's chief executive, Chris Weston, has warned that the company may have to enforce restrictions this summer due to the dry spring. He revealed that the UK's largest water supplier has recently increased its drought preparation plans, which includes encouraging customers to conserve water.
