It's been five-years since the UK bid farewell to the European Union, a period marked by the profound global impact of a pandemic, conflict, and economic instability, the UK has navigated these waters largely on its own. Our readers have been reflecting back and weighing up Brexit.
The referendum was originally devised by former Prime Minister David Cameron as a strategy to silence the "eurosceptics" in his Tory fold, a bet he ultimately lost. It led to the infamous and deeply polarising 52-48% split following heated debates over finances, immigration, and what it means to be British.
What followed were many negotiations, as officials squabbled over the Brexit fine print, timings, and murmurs of an eventual EU reunion. Finally, the clock stopped ticking, and Britain's EU chapter closed.
