His Burden Is Light

Jesus Christ is our Burden Bearer. The only burden He asks us to carry is trust--trust that His Way is the perfect way, the way to peace and to real love, the love of a Father toward children fully accepted;

"For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light" (Matthew 11:30 AMP).

Anna suffered greatly from guilt and condemnation in her personal life... until she grasped that Christ's yoke is easy, and His burden is light.

Anna is the contract nurse assigned to my case by the drug company as part of the clinical trial in which I am enrolled. I listened quietly while she did her work, exchanging small talk and comments on current events, until an opportunity for a deeper conversation presented itself.

Anna finally opened up about her difficult childhood, and the shame and guilt of being a teenage unwed mother. When I brought up the subject of faith, she talked about how the child's father had weaponized religion against her, and how it became difficult to distinguish the Jesus of her own gospel readings from the condemning figure thrown back at her by her child's family. But after separating from the child's father, and after a wilderness season marked by several personal, God-ordained encounters, Anna found joy in her faith and in all that God has for her--because Jesus' yoke is easy; and His burden is light.

You may have a lot in common with Anna. Perhaps your spouse has just been diagnosed with cancer. You feel a tremendous amount of anxiety about the future... but His burden is light! Maybe your son just got arrested for drunk driving; and acted foolishly when the police confronted him. You are angry and frustrated... but His burden is light! It’s possible you are one of several children providing care for an elderly family member. You feel that the rest of your siblings don't seem to notice how difficult this process has been. You are starting to stress over the cost of care; while for the third time you are working to complete the requisite forms. You feel overwhelmed and alone... but His burden is light! And if that wasn’t enough of a challenge, your fully........
