Millions of households are bracing for another surge in energy bills this spring, as Ofgem announces a new price cap. The cap will see a 6.4 percent rise, with the exact cost dependent on individual gas and electricity usage.

To give a rough estimate, for every £100 spent on gas and electricity, this would increase to £106.40. The average dual fuel household paying by direct debit will witness their annual energy bill climb from £1,738 to £1,849 from April 1 - an increase of £111 per year, or £9.25 per month.

This increase surpasses the £85 hike that industry experts at Cornwall Insight had previously predicted. It also marks the third recent spike in energy bills, following a 10 percent........
