Keir Starmer has warned local authorities that they must show results on pothole repairs or else they could lose road maintenance funding.
Starting from next month, councils will start receiving their share of £1.6 billion earmarked for road maintenance, bolstered by an extra £500 million pledged by the Department for Transport (DfT). According to DfT's calculations, this cash injection should cover the repair of seven million potholes each year.
