Angela Rayner stamp duty row raises questions over Starmer’s support
Keir Starmer has backed his deputy Angela Rayner following her admission that she failed to pay the correct amount of tax on her second home purchase - and we want to hear your views.
This follows the Deputy PM avoiding a £40,000 stamp duty bill on an £800,000 coastal apartment in Hove after removing her name from the deeds of a family property in her Ashton-under-Lyne constituency. Consequently, she was not required to pay the higher rate of tax for second homes on the Hove flat.

During yesterday's interview, the housing secretary revealed she had referred herself to the independent adviser on ministerial standards, and disclosed that she discussed stepping down from her position with her family. Ms Rayner acknowledged that the legal guidance she had depended upon proved to be incorrect, and confirmed she will settle any outstanding stamp duty demanded by HMRC.
The Ashton-under-Lyne MP told Sky News that she "alerted and referred" herself to the ethics adviser "as soon as" she discovered she had been liable to pay........
