Solar farm fields in Cambridgeshire 'great news, we need more renewables'
CambridgeshireLive readers have heard that a new solar farm could be built on farmland in the Cambridgeshire countryside if the plans are approved. Renewable Connections Developments said there is a strong need for more solar farms to help meet government targets for cutting the UK’s carbon emissions.
A planning application has been submitted to Fenland District Council for permission to build the Treading Bank Solar Farm, which would cover 96.49 hectares of agricultural land off Treading Bank, near Gorefield.
The project proposes installing rows of ground-mounted solar panels across the fields. According to the developer, the site could generate around 49.9 megawatts of electricity per year—enough to power approximately 18,000 homes.
The company confirmed the site would connect directly to the national electricity grid, and that there are currently no plans to include a battery storage system.
