Green light for solar farm despite objections 'our countryside will be a mess'

Cambridgeshire Live readers were unhappy to hear that a new solar farm will be built in the Cambridgeshire countryside after developers were granted planning permission, despite concerns over its “dramatic impact” on locals. Huntingdonshire District Council approved the 94-hectare Rookery Farm Solar Farm near Stow Longa, which will also include battery storage units and a biodiversity zone with wildflowers.

Planning officers recommended the scheme, noting most of the land was classed as grade 3b, described as “not the best and most versatile” farmland. They also pointed out that the solar panels would be removed after 40 years, allowing the land to return to agriculture.
