Council's £195k spend on 20mph signs slammed as 'a total waste of time and money'

Cambridgeshire Live readers have criticised the fact that Cambridgeshire County Council splashed out £194,396.69 on 20mph signs for Huntingdon. The figure was unveiled in a Freedom of Information (FOI) request, lodged by Councillor David Landon Cole (Labour).

The funds, sourced from the Transforming Cities Fund via the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, were used to cover the installation of the signs. However, it didn't stretch to additional design or staffing costs. Some locals have slammed the amount of money spent as a 'waste'.

Resident Tim Welford branded it a "disgusting waste of money" and argued that the "roads should be sorted out first". He added: "I don't mean just filling holes here and there, I mean re-surfacing."

Neighbour Jon Smith said that 20mph speed limits "seem like a step forward" but claimed "in practice, it's little more than a gesture - very costly, ineffective and frustrating for everyday road users." He added: "Without........
