Nelson: Trump casts his long shadow over Alberta's separation push
Donald Trump will be licking his lips. Grabbing Greenland and Venezuela are mere chump change compared to seizing Alberta.
A few months ago such a suggestion would have sounded ludicrous. No longer. Not in today’s crazy, mixed-up world where the U.S. president threatens to seize a sovereign European nation, and recently sent elite troops to snatch a South American leader on his own soil and transport him to New York to face drug trafficking charges.
Trump is now promising to jack up his much-loved trade tariffs upon any European country getting in the way of making Greenland part of America. The Norwegians came in for extra abuse because they had the sheer nerve not to give him the Nobel Peace Prize recently. (Trump got his hands on it anyway, by pressuring the actual recipient, Venezuelan Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, to hand it over.)
