Nelson: Mayor Farkas reminds Premier Smith who the top dog is in Calgary

Danielle Smith could find herself unemployed soon, collateral damage in this bitter separation battle.

Maybe that’s fuelling a desire to seek out a fallback career as the future mayor of Calgary. At least it would pay more than a return to hosting a radio talk show.

There’s a fly in that ointment, however. She wouldn’t come anywhere close to beating the fellow doing the job these days, assuming Jeromy Farkas was up for another go-round as the city’s chief magistrate come October 2029.

Which is why Smith should stick to the job for which she’s currently paid — being premier of Alberta — instead of constantly sticking her nose into the more mundane world of municipal politics.

The latest daft intrusion came with her recent pronouncement about loud music emanating from a couple of downtown venues during Stampede.

Smith derided city council as the fun police for tweaking its late-night noise rules involving those establishments following previous complaints from nearby residents.
