Ford: Council needs to get back to the issues that need debating

It seems so trivial, like the choice between Coke and Pepsi.

Nothing to fret about; more important stuff going on; get to the next item on the agenda. But this “trivial” decision has deeper, more serious roots and deserves a more serious look.

The choice? Bottled water or tap water? Calgary city council wants its water bottles back, arguing that the rest of city hall gets bottles, but they have to be content with — what? The best drinking water this side of the Rockies? (Sarcasm, but true, nonetheless.)

How many Calgarians creased their foreheads and asked themselves if there wasn’t something more important to worry about — provincial interference in the education system, in our libraries, into our lives.

This, of course, is not to mention some of the more egregious actions of the current Alberta government — gerrymandering the electoral boundaries, dismantling and distorting the health-care system, promoting private service to the advantage of the well-off.
