It’s official: 2026 Finalissima is canceled
The 2026 Finalissima has been officially canceled, after Argentina and Spain — the winners of the Copa América and the Eurocopa, respectively — were unable to find a date and venue that suited both federations.
The football tournament, originally scheduled to take place on March 27 at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, hung by a thread after the conflict in the Middle East escalated recently.
The news was announced by the European football confederation UEFA, which jointly organizes the tournament with its South American counterpart CONMEBOL.
European football’s governing body put the blame squarely on Argentina, pointing out that “despite the understandable difficulties involved in rescheduling” the match, “UEFA explored other viable alternatives,” all of which were “deemed unacceptable by the Argentine Football Association (AFA).”
