Car rams FBI Pittsburgh office in targeted attack amid rising anti-government hostility

A man rammed his vehicle into the gates of the FBI’s Pittsburgh office in what federal officials have called a “targeted act of terror” against the agency. The incident occurred at around 2:40 a.m. on September 17 and has intensified concerns over rising hostility toward federal law enforcement, highlighting the volatile mix of political radicalization, mental health struggles, and domestic security threats.

The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Donald Henson of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, crashed his white sedan into the security gate outside the FBI’s headquarters. According to an official statement, Henson then exited his vehicle, retrieved an American flag from the car, and threw it onto the damaged gate before fleeing the scene on foot.

Authorities have since launched a multi-agency manhunt for Henson, warning that he may be armed and dangerous. The FBI has vowed to apprehend him and prosecute him to the “fullest extent of the law.”

During a press briefing, Special Agent in Charge Christopher Giordano told reporters that the agency is treating the ramming as a deliberate attack. “We are going to exhaust every ability we have under federal law to find, apprehend and prosecute this subject,” Giordano declared. He emphasized that the attack was not random but carefully targeted at the FBI itself.

Though no injuries were reported, the symbolism of the act has troubled officials. Henson’s decision to display the American flag at the scene raised questions about whether he intended his actions as a political statement or as part of a broader anti-government narrative.
