Mario Canseco: Carney earns more trust than Poilievre on finances, survey finds

Practically five months have passed since the Canadian federal election that led to a minority government headed by the Liberal Party under Prime Minister Mark Carney. The issue landscape has shifted dramatically, with Canada-U.S. Relations now ranked third, behind the economy and jobs, and housing, homelessness and poverty.

When we asked Canadians about the current state of affairs, more than a third (35 per cent) rate the economic conditions in Canada as “very good” or “good”, up six points from our April survey. The proportion of Canadians who rate the country’s finances as “poor” or “very poor” fell from 68 per cent to 62 per cent.

While only 15 per cent of Canadians (down one point) expect the economic conditions in Canada to improve in the next six months, identical proportions foresee either stability (39 per cent, up eight points) or a decline (also 39 per cent, down four points).

Almost half of Albertans (46 per cent) are ready to forecast gloomier days for Canada’s economy. The proportions are lower in British Columbia (42 per cent), Ontario (37 per cent), Quebec (35 per cent), Saskatchewan and........
