Country over party

Need a new idea? Since Arkansas seems to be so deep into Republicans, perhaps we should not try and replace them with Democrats.

Why not reach out to the Republicans and find a few that will think for themselves and stand up to the "strongman" and his henchmen? Surely we have Republicans that when elected will go to Congress and exercise their constitutional duty to ensure that programs Congress created will not be slashed by one man, regardless of his political affiliation.

Perhaps a good start would be to replace the current Arkansas Republican contingency with folks that will put country over party.

Mr. Dana Deree, in his very timely column on March 31 in the Democrat-Gazette, reminded everyone that the man in the White House did not receive a "mandate."

Mr. Deree stated, "Elections have consequences, even ones where the popular vote margin is 49.8 percent to 48.33 percent." With this in mind, one must ask, why are our current Republicans so quiet?

Thank you, Mr. Brummett, for your April 2 column!
