Deporting criminals
Here's a multiple choice pop quiz to test your knowledge.
According to a Pew Research Center study published last month, 97 percent of adult Americans surveyed said (choose one): (a) They believe in God; (b) The national debt is too high; (c) Women's sports should not allow male trans athletes; (d) Illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes should be deported.
If you answered (a), sorry. There was a time, back in the 1950s and '60s, when 97 (and even 98) percent of Americans believed in God, but today the percentage has dropped to 81 percent.
Answer (b) is also wrong. A March 2025 Peterson Foundation survey showed 78 percent of Americans believe the national debt is a pressing issue that requires presidential and congressional priority. That's a solid majority, but way short of 97 percent.
Good guess on answer (c), but no. A New York Times/Ipsos poll in January revealed 79 percent of all Americans oppose males who identify as transgender females being allowed to compete in women's sports. The opposition split along partisan lines, increasing to 94 percent among Republicans, compared to 67 percent of Democrats.
The correct answer is (d).
The Pew Research Center conducts a lot of polls, and rarely do almost all Americans agree on any single issue. It's even more rare for a nearly universal percentile aggregate to also hold steady across both........
