GOP thinks voters are dumb enough to kill initiatives
The Republicans who control the Arizona Legislature are hoping that, in 2026, we will be stupid enough to vote against our best interests. (A belief that is based, I’d guess, on the fact that we elected them.)
House Concurrent Resolution 2025 would make it a LOT more difficult for a citizens’ initiative to pass, raising the threshold from 50% plus one to 60%.
And at the same time (again hoping we’re all just … dim), there’s a provision in the proposal allowing only 50% of voters to rescind Proposition 139, the citizens’ initiative that in 2024 was approved (and Republican lawmakers hate) to protect the “fundamental right to abortion.”
