I Was Not Really Pro-Life (And What Changed My Mind)

Leftism forces us to look at things only from the woman’s viewpoint, but the baby’s life is equally important, no matter the circumstances of its conception.

Unlike many establishment pro-family and parents’ rights groups, MassResistance takes a firm stance against homosexuality, and we are not content to hide behind half-measures and compromises to restore marriage, family, and culture. However, I have a confession to make: I used to be one of those establishment pro-life types, the ones who are not committed to abolishing abortion entirely, but accepted all sorts of exceptions. I’d like to share what it took to make me an abolitionist.

For years, I stuck with the usual conservative phrase: “I am pro-life, with exceptions in the cases of rape, incest, and the life of the mother.”

I first faced pushback in 2018. I was having lunch with some pro-Trump patriots after protesting a town hall hosted by then-Congresswoman Katie Hill. A man we called Jedi Patriot joined us. We started talking about policy. I think he began criticizing Trump because of his stance on abortion, or something.

At any rate, I stated, “I am pro-life, but I recognize exceptions in the cases of rape, incest, and the life of the mother.”

Jedi Patriot retorted, “Why kill the baby? It’s not the baby’s fault if he was conceived in rape.” I hit back. “It’s not the mother’s fault, either. Should she be forced to carry a child to term because of someone else’s crime?” The discussion ended........
