Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s recent attempts to denigrate our judicial system and his call for American-style justice in Canada should alarm all those who believe in the rule of law.

Ford’s rants are directed at what he calls “bleeding-heart” judges who, he says, let criminals off easily or meddle in government policy. In the latest salvo, the premier heaped praise on a Vaughan man who shot at thieves trying to steal his car, and said we should pass U.S.-style castle laws that allow individuals to use deadly force against intruders.
