‘I’m enjoying this too much’: Cherry-Evans not ready to retire from Origin arena
Daly Cherry-Evans can think of at least one reason to delay retirement from representative football and potentially go around again for Queensland in 2025.
“My kids are happy knowing I’m hanging out with Reece Walsh – they think their dad is still cool,” Cherry-Evans said.
At the start of this week, the Maroons skipper started to field questions about his plans beyond this series. The same questions were asked last year.
Cherry-Evans sat down before Christmas, listed the pros and cons of representative retirement, and quickly realised he was not ready to walk away.
“I thought to myself, ‘you’re kidding’. Why retire? I’m enjoying this too much,” he said.
Now, three days out from Origin I, Cherry-Evans is 35, about to play his 23rd Origin game and looking to lead Queensland to a fourth series win in five years.
