Les Leyne: B.C. Conservatives' soap opera story arc could go anywhere

Here’s a synopsis of the latest instalment of my favourite soap opera: As the (B.C. Conservative) World Burns.

This week’s episode was pretty good.

Fans of the genre will say it wasn’t on par with the historic plot twists on other shows over the years, like when Marlena was possessed by the devil on Days of Our Lives. She started levitating and her eyes turned bright green.

And it fell short of the famous “evil clone” storyline on Guiding Light, where the guy cloned his wife after he thought she died in a plane crash, but the clone turned evil, and the wife, who wasn’t dead after all, came back and wound up forgiving the clone, who died after taking an aging serum.

But it’s early in the Conservatives’ run. Maybe they can build up to that level.

Anyway, this week’s show dealt with leader John Rustad’s insecurity issues. Fans have been worried about that, since they decided earlier in the season to put his leadership to a vote.

The show changed direction on that thread by giving him a 70 per cent backing in the vote announced Monday. It looked like the “Is John gone?” plot line was fading, although........
