Left calls violence against Trump 'staged.' It's vile – and wrong.

A couple of things struck me as I watched the horror unfold in real time at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington, DC, on April 25.

First, not long ago I assumed I'd be in that room. I tried to imagine the fear as the gunshots rang out, unmistakable on the C-SPAN broadcast. In those first moments, no one knew what would happen next. President Donald Trump, the first lady and Vice President JD Vance were seated at the front of the room.

Second, once the chaos subsided, something else stood out. The room, full of journalists and politicians in tuxes and gowns, became a room of people looking out for one another. Democrats and Republicans alike set aside their differences in the face of a shared threat.

Sadly, because Trump was involved, it didn't take long for partisanship to reassert itself. Within hours, social media filled with claims that the shooting had been "staged,"........
