Trump doesn't know how to fix America's housing crisis

Heading into the 2026 midterm elections, President Donald Trump seems intent on addressing the “affordability crisis” that he once claimed didn’t exist

Trump has thrown around a series of economic policy ideas to address different affordability concerns. He has proposed a ban on institutional investors buying single-family homes and capping credit card interest rates at 10% – both of which are bound to be popular among working Americans, and that's good for Trump. 

But Trump’s flippant economic policy ideas will not accomplish the things he hopes they will, nor are they conservative. They are simply more empty populist attempts at bribing voters that go against economics.

Trump’s economic illiteracy is entirely unsurprising at this point, but it does make me want to pull my hair out more and more as the years go on. 

His tariff regime has put his economic lunacy on display for all to see, yet Trump still seems intent on trying to bribe his way out of the mess he has made with voters, rather than admitting he was wrong.
