As MSNBC is on the verge of completing its divorce from NBC News, the new breakoff company Versant is trying to sell everyone on the newly branded (but oldly biased) news network as it transitions into being called MS NOW.

To sell people on this image makeover, Versant has dropped $20 million on an ad campaign to alert everyone about the rebranding. In one promotional clip, Rachel Maddow reads from the Declaration of Independence, as a montage plays out, with clips of the on-air anchors looking pensive and serious toward the camera that are interspersed with public scenes. These are not live candid clips, but homey and traditional scenes, played by actors.

These vignettes feature a high percentage of POC individuals because the network has learned it boasts the largest share of the black viewing audience among the cable networks. This is why in another promo clip, the late poet Maya Angelou is featured,........
