What’s Beautiful About the Big Beautiful Bill

Well, it finally passed! On July 3rd, 2025, the Republican Conference got the Big Beautiful Bill to President Trump’s desk. July 4th, Independence Day, and Trump signed off on another set of incredible victories.

President Trump campaigned on key conservative priorities, and he has kept those promises, cajoling an erstwhile reluctant GOP Congress to go along.

There’s much to celebrate in this legislation.

Let’s just dispense with the final bill’s not-so-beautiful provisions:

1. SALT deductions increased to $40,000

This is not the worst thing, actually, but the principle of the matter still matters. Why should low-tax red state voters defray the burden for blue state voters? The one justification is that Trump and the Republican Party are gaining in blue states, and some of the blue states are rapidly becoming purple (New Mexico, Virginia, Minnesota), or becoming red (New Jersey, Pennsylvania).

Besides, the old SALT deductions were unlimited. Maintaining the caps remains a win for Red States v. Blue States.

2. The Debt Ceiling Increase

This is the worst part. However, with a razor-thin majority in the House and potential defections in the United States Senate, the One Big Beautiful Bill would inevitably include One Big Debt Ceiling Increase. There are silver linings in the aftermath of this provision’s passage. More everyday Americans, including populist-conservative websites like Citizen Free Press, are recognizing the problems with unsustainable debt. If long-term inflation becomes a norm in this country, voters will start holding their representatives more accountable to cut spending.

Now, let’s revel in the significant cultural victories which cannot be ignored, including several promises which previous Republican presidents—and Congresses—had made and never kept.
