Editorial: Zeldin's PFAS changes go too far

Some 'forever chemicals' are now going to be in drinking water longer than previously promised.

The EPA’s reversal on drinking water standards for some types of “forever chemicals” shows just how low the Trump administration has sunk in its failure to protect people’s health.

Out of one side of their mouths comes “Make America Healthy Again,” while out of the other comes a callous rewriting of some standards for PFAS, or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, set just three years ago by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA’s new director, former U.S. Rep. Lee Zeldin, definitely got the administration’s double-talk play call when he announced the plan to shelve standards for four of the six types of PFAS being regulated while — somehow — defending the administration’s record.
