EDITORIAL: Treat Lake George with care

The revelation that an herbicide can still be detected in Lake George, at potentially harmful levels, a year after it was introduced, is disappointing enough.
Arguably more troubling is the reaction from the Lake George Park Commission, which seems more interested in defending its decision than taking a fresh look at whether chemically treating one of the most pristine lakes in America is a good idea.

After much controversy, and over opposition from the Lake George Association, the commission last year decided to do a test application of ProcellaCOR to see how well it worked in controlling Eurasian watermilfoil and invasive species. Until then, milfoil was controlled by labor-intensive manual........
