Editorial: Stand up to these bullies

President Donald Trump addresses Gov. Janet Mills of Maine on Feb. 21, 2025, after she said "See you in court" over the issue of trans women in sports. Trump was addressing a meeting of governors at the White House as part The National Governors Association winter meetings.

At a time when admirable concepts like “diversity,” “equity” and “inclusion” are under assault from the White House and inspiring stories of minorities and women are being scrubbed from U.S. government websites, it’s little wonder that a policy as well-intentioned as “Affirming Our Support for Every Student” would merit a federal investigation.

Unsurprising, yes, but reprehensible nonetheless.

Still, if there’s a bright spot in this fight, it’s the opportunity it presents for the Saratoga Springs City School District to show students how to stand up to a bully – and set an example for the New York Legislature as well.

The weight of the federal government is being brought to bear on the Saratoga Springs district as a result of the school board’s adoption in March of a resolution declaring its intent to provide "safe, inclusive and high-quality education for every student." The horror.

The resolution was meant to show support for immigrant and transgender students — more horrors — amid unrelenting attacks on them from President Donald J. Trump and his administration.
