Editorial: South Colonie special education claims require immediate attention
A plan to send two 12-year-olds to Colonie Central High School is raising questions about the district's special education program.
The South Colonie Central School District has made what seems to be an odd and dubious decision. It is sending two special education students, both 12-year-old boys, to the district's high school.
As the Times Union's Kathleen Moore reported, the decision has infuriated the parents of both children, who say the pair are not ready to share public bathrooms with the Colonie Central High School student body, much less handle other large-group events in which they could be expected to participate. The parents also note, correctly, that middle schoolers who are not disabled would never be sent to high school,........
