Editorial: Mr. Trump's minions target the AG
Attorney General Letitia James at a March 2024 news conference at the state Capitol in Albany.
If the news that the Albany office of the U.S. Justice Department has subpoenaed state Attorney General Letitia James teaches us anything, it's this: The word “weaponization” has lost all meaning.
According to The New York Times and other outlets, acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York John A. Sarcone III is fishing for evidence that Ms. James' civil litigation against the Trump Organization violated Mr Trump’s civil rights. It was, however, State Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron who concluded that Mr. Trump’s family business repeatedly inflated the value of its properties in order to secure cheaper loans. (This civil fraud case is not to be confused with the state criminal trial in which Mr. Trump was convicted by a jury last year on more than 30 counts of fraudulently concealing hush-money payments to Stormy Daniels.)
