Editorial: Dereliction of duty by Albany's Common Council

A note to readers: This editorial repeats phrases and themes from a piece we published almost exactly a year ago — not because we have become lazy or overwhelmed by the short holiday workweek, but because when the exact same bureaucratic breakdown happens two years in a row and the cure is so glaringly obvious, we see no need to reinvent the wheel.
Our earlier editorial concerned the case of Milton Arroyo, who in September 2024 was appointed by Albany’s Common Council to the Community Police Review Board, which is empowered to investigate complaints of alleged wrongdoing by members of the city’s police department. Three months later, a Times Union reporter used simple web searches to discover that Mr. Arroyo had been fired by a Florida sheriff’s office in 2017 after an investigation determined he........
