Editorial: Consequences for prison strikers

Just as our correctional facilities are intended to confine only the guilty, the career consequences for those who commit violations of the state’s Taylor Law should be doled out only to those who — based on the best available evidence — actually broke it.

It is therefore distressing to learn from reporting by the Times Union’s Brendan J. Lyons that correction officers who were injured, sick or on medical leave have been lumped in among the roughly 2,000 correction officers fired by Gov. Kathy Hochul’s administration for failing to return to work at the end of New York’s three-week wildcat prison strike. Many of these workers have filed........
